YOKOHAMA, Japan – Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. launched the refreshed Fairlady Z and Fairlady Z NISMO, which also went on sale in Japan today.
The Fairlady Z combines heritage-inspired styling with modern technology, highlighted by the long-hood, short-deck proportion inherited from the classic S30 generation. It has also earned praise for the dynamic driving performance and sharp response unique to the Fairlady Z, strengthening the bond between the car and the driver, a key characteristic of its legacy. The refreshed model further evolves the heritage that has defined the Fairlady Z while enhancing its performance.
Exterior updates include the return of the front Z emblem as a tribute to heritage generations, a newly designed front bumper and a new Unryu Green / Super Black two-tone body color. While retaining the model’s ‘Dance Partner’ concept, Nissan has further refined handling precision and responsiveness to driver inputs, strengthening the sense of connection between driver and vehicle and further enhancing driving excitement.
Key enhancements are outlined below:
Fairlady Z (Standard model)
● Return of the front Z emblem and introduction of a newly designed front bumper
The Z emblem, which has featured on the front of successive models from the S30 introduced in 1969 through the Z32 introduced in 1989, returns to the front fascia.*1
In line with Fairlady Z’s heritage-inspired design concept, the front bumper has also been redesigned. Extending the tip of the nose further emphasizes the model’s long-hood, short-deck proportions while creating a lower and wider stance.
The lower bumper flows into the sides of the vehicle, creating an elegant yet dynamic appearance. Revised positioning of the ducts and sonar sensors reduces front-end lift while also lowering aerodynamic drag.
The new wheels pay tribute to the aero-disc design of the third-generation Z31, featuring a distinctive geometric-machined pattern around the rim. Lightweight and highly rigid forged aluminum wheels have been adopted, creating a design that blends Z heritage with contemporary technology.
The interior, a tan interior color inspired by the classic S30 has been added, creating a refined and sophisticated cabin atmosphere.*2
A total of 10 body colors are available, comprising five two-tone and five monotone options. The lineup includes a new Unryu Green / Super Black two-tone finish inspired by Grand Prix Green, the signature color of the S30 that remains popular among Z enthusiasts today.
● Improved ride comfort with large-diameter monotube shock absorbers
New larger-diameter monotube shock absorbers designed to respond quickly to changes in the road surface are available with the refreshed Z.*2 The pressure-receiving area of the dampers have increased by 26.6% compared with the previous model. This more effectively controls changes in vehicle posture in response to road inputs, delivering a supple and stable ride even at high speeds.
● New meter opening animation
A new opening animation has been introduced for the 12.3-inch full-color digital meter. The animation sequentially displays silhouettes of every Z generation, from the S30 through RZ34. Celebrating the heritage and history that this Fairlady Z continues to carry forward, the animation is designed to build anticipation among Z enthusiasts of all generations each time the vehicle is started.
Fairlady Z NISMO
For the refreshed Fairlady Z NISMO, Nissan has responded to strong customer feedback by adding a six-speed manual transmission to the lineup. The powertrain, chassis and braking performance have also been further refined.
● New dedicated short-throw six-speed manual transmission
The new six-speed manual transmission features a short-throw shifter that delivers quick and direct driving feel, further strengthening the sense of connection between driver and vehicle. Its precise shift action enables quick shifts with a simple movement of the wrist.
Throttle response and ignition timing have been exclusively optimized for the manual-transmission model. This delivers an immediate and linear response from the moment the accelerator pedal is pressed, together with smooth and sustained acceleration through higher engine speeds.
Two drive modes are available, Standard and Sport. The Standard mode balances ease of use with driving performance, while Sport mode maximizes the vehicle’s performance potential. Each drive mode features dedicated acceleration sound tuning, allowing drivers to experience the vehicle’s acceleration through both feel and sound.
Standard mode is designed for urban driving and long-distance touring. It restrains engine sound levels under acceleration while delivering a smooth and sustained sense of acceleration from the mid-range upward.
Sport mode provides more linear accelerator response at higher engine speeds, together with a more pronounced engine sound, creating an engaging and exhilarating driving experience.
The Vehicle Dynamics Control system also gains a NISMO-exclusive Traction mode. Dedicated tuning enhances the vehicle’s response to accelerator and steering inputs, enabling vehicle behavior that more faithfully reflects driver intent and delivering an even greater sense of control and driving pleasure.
● Further refined chassis performance enhances the ‘Buddy on Track’ concept
The brake calipers feature a new bright red finish, while the front brakes are equipped with two-piece drilled rotors previously used on the Nissan GT‑R.
The rotors improve braking performance through enhanced heat dissipation while also reducing unsprung weight. The suspension has been exclusively tuned to complement the weight reduction, improving road-holding capability and turn-in response.
A low-friction steering rack provides smoother steering feel and greater cornering precision, allowing drivers to better trace their desired line. Five body colors are available, including the NISMO-exclusive NISMO Stealth Gray / Super Black two-tone finish. The interior features combination seats upholstered in leather and Alcantara.
● New equipment and features common to Fairlady Z and Fairlady Z NISMO
Both models are now equipped with a wireless charger compatible with the latest Qi2 standard. Built-in magnets securely hold compatible devices in position, enabling uninterrupted charging even when the vehicle is exposed to vibration while driving. An integrated cooling fan keeps devices cooler during charging and helps maintain stable charging performance.
Additional enhancements include a new chamber inside the fuel tank to provide more stable fuel delivery during high lateral-G cornering. The vehicles are also equipped with an emergency braking system that meets braking requirements for detecting bicycles.
